The Edge Of Love

May 12th
The Edge Of Love will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival this week, though not in competition. Capitol Films are showcasing two projects, and Edge will be shown on May 15th (8.15pm) & 17th (10am) at Cinema Star 2 (opp. the Riviera), and on the 19th (12noon) at Star 1 Cinema. They're industry/press screenings, not gala events, so I doubt any of the stars will attend.

May 10th
The Sunday Telegraph's Stella magazine has an article on Dylan Thomas and The Edge Of Love.

The role of Cathy in Wuthering Heights is available again, as Natalie Portman has apparently quit the movie. This is the second consecutive John Maybury movie in which he's lost his leading lady, following Miss Lohan's departure from The Edge Of Love. The latter was good news for Keira's fans, but will the former ? Will Keira return from self-imposed exile on St. Helena to save the project ?!

May 7th
- Tickets for the Edinburgh Film Festival will be on sale from Friday 9th.  The fest's web site's Edge of Love page is partly online.
- Sunday's Observer interview is now online.
- Meanwhile, The Guardian has an interview with the daughter of Dylan Thomas.

May 3rd
There's a brand new interview with Keira in today's Observer Film Quarterly magazine, the first Edge Of Love interview. She's also the cover girl, featuring one of the Julian Broad shots I mentioned a few days ago. Scans can be seen on the Magazines page.
Thanks Toria for the scans

Saturday's Independent has an article on the perennial interest in Dylan Thomas' life and works.

April 10th
More pics from The Edge Of Love have trickled out onto KeiraDaily, and The Sun has a typical tabloid take on the two female leads. And there's another positive screening review here.

April 9th
The Edge Of Love will open the Edinburgh International Film Festival on June 18th, Variety announced today, adding that Keira is expected to attend. It also says the June 20th UK release will be London only, with nationwide release on the 27th.

High praise for Keira in this screening review of The Edge of Love.
Thanks GingerMan

March 28th
Both The Duchess and Edge Of Love are muted as Cannes possibles for this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

March 23rd
The official site for The Edge Of Love will be live soon.
And there's a new still on the web site of one of the filming locations.
Thanks Harriet

March 7th
The Daily Mail confirms Keira's songs which we'll hear her singing in The Edge Of Love will appear on the soundtrack. Not surprisingly, the newswires are already full of stupid 'Keira to release an album' headlines. New pic on the article, though.
Still no news on a release date: likely summer, with The Duchess in autumn/fall. I contacted the production company this week - there were plans to have a premiere of The Edge of Love in Laugharne where Dylan Thomas lived and parts of the movie were filmed, but the film company must have said no as it no longer appears on their programme for The Laugharne Weekend over Easter.

February 19th
A new Edge Of Love pic has surfaced, on a personal finance magazine cover, strangely! KeiraDaily has the pic.

July 15th
Sienna Miller dismisses The Edge Of Love three-in-a-bed rumours, but does admit to a two-in-a-bath scene. Interview.

June 29th
In a TV interview tonight Matthew Rhys said that filming on The Edge Of Love wraps tomorrow.

June 22nd
This article in 3:AM magazine (not to be confused with the Daily Mirror's showbiz section 3am) is written by novelist Sophie Parkin who has a bit part in The Edge Of Love. She tells of a quick chat with Keira in which she rubbished the claims of her leaving the industry (which, as usual, were only deliberate misquotes by the press for attention-grabbing soundbites).

June 21st
The Edge Of Love poster art has appeared today, rather early and rather similar to the one for Closer.

June 15th
After her song in Pirates AWE, Keira will be singing again in The Edge Of Love, according to this article.

May 21st
Here's another interview with Matthew Rhys from the set of The Edge Of Love.

May 15th
Here's some of today's filming footage from The Edge Of Love in New Quay, recorded by me this evening on BBC Wales, including an interview with Matthew Rhys (Dylan Thomas). Watch here.

May 13th
The Welsh press today have the story that Keira and Sienna played up to the nonsense rumour of lesbian action in The Edge Of Love when they kissed for the paps while filming last week, but nobody captured it as they'd all gone home ! Article.

And The Independent yesterday had an articleon the truth behind the gunshot episode.

May 9th
In a very rare TV opportunity, ITV Wales tonight showed filming footage from The Edge Of Love, showing a beach scene with Keira and Matthew. No idea if the Unit Publicist gave them permission to film this, but for the time being it's on my YouTube page now. Watch it while you can.

Best Time news:
- The Best Time Of Our Lives has been retitled The Edge Of Love, it was announced today. This BBC article mentions the new title, as did ITV Wales Tonight this evening. The article has some different pics to those which appeared yesterday, and the Daily Mail is just one of many British papers carrying the beach scene pics today.
- Both BBC and ITV were in the area today, but filming was not allowed on set. Although Dylan's house is still standing in New Quay, a replica house has been built along the coast for purposes of filming. New Quay filming is set to last for three weeks before moving to Pinewood- Shepperton Studios in London.
- Variety reports today that worldwide distribution for the movie is almost complete, as Lionsgate have acquired UK and Australian distribution deals. Thanks Harriet
- Hollywood gossip says that Lindsay Lohan pulled out of the movie following a refusal to take a mandatory drugs test. Hmmm.

May 7th
Filming started today in Wales on The Best Time Of Our Lives, and here - already - are the first 15 pap snaps.
Thanks Harriet

April 29th
Keira's mum Sharman Macdonald talks to The Observer in an interview published today.
Thanks Captain Stigmata

April 25th
Talk about 'sex sells'. Today's Sun newspaper has a mock-up photo of the 'threesome' scene from Best Time.., which Matthew Rhys has already dismissed as a joke. It seems to be doing the rounds on the newswires right now though, along with the story that Keira will sing on tonight's American Idol. Just because it's usually a song contest, guys... Please remember we in the UK won't see the show till Saturday, so you might want to head over to YouTube to get Keira clippage first.

April 23rd
Keira's friend Sienna Miller has stepped in to play Caitlin in Best Time Of Our Lives. Today's Variety reports that Lindsay's problem was a financial one. Whatever. She's out. Hopefully, rehearsals and filming is back to its original schedule - the read-through was due today, with rehearsals until filming starts in early May.
Thanks Fliss, Drew, Harriet

April 22nd
Today's Mail on Sunday reports that Keira is 'furious' at Lindsay's backing out of Best Time because she was 'instrumental' in getting her cast for the role of Caitlin. Hands up who believes that ?

April 18th
Lindsay has apparently pulled out of Best Time, according to these breaking news reports: LifeStyle Weekly - ContactMusic
They cite an unagreeable contract as the reason, but at such a late stage I find that VERY hard to believe - surely contracts are the FIRST thing to be finalised ? They will need to move really fast now to replace her, or the project will be put back, and that sometimes means years. It's unfortunate for Keira and Sharman - and Capitol Films - but elation for Keira's fans. A dream come true, in fact. Maybe Lindsay's been reading the Keira forums, or perhaps she's seen the KeiraWeb poll results. Hmm, I wonder if Ros Pike is really confirmed for that other Dylan Thomas movie ?

April 15th
Another heads-up article about The Best Time filming from the Welsh press today.

April 1st
I mentioned some weeks ago that Cillian Murphy was in the frame to complete the main four roles in Best Time Of Our Lives, and now Variety confirms he has been cast. Meanwhile, here's the first columnist who's voiced his disapproval of La Lohan's casting choice (adding to millions of Keira fans already).

March 29th
Matthew Rhys talks about his forthcoming role as Dylan Thomas in this article, revealing that another draft of the script has been written, and that his 'three in a bed' comments were a joke !

March 26th
Yesterday's Sunday Mirror (ie. believe it if you want to) says that Best Time's producers Capitol Films have lined up 'bonding events' for Keira and Lindsay to get along, including cinema and bowling dates. The paper cites potential friction as they both have Jamie Dornan in their recent histories.
KeiraWeb says: I recommend a few rounds of naked Twister (but only if I can watch) ! If last year's Lohan snub at the London party was true, such nights out might well be needed, but I doubt if the Dornan connection is important.

March 8th
Today's Daily Mail also says that Cillian Murphy is lined up to play Keira's husband William Killick in Best Time, and that filming will begin in May, not April. Article.
This tourist site for New Quay, Wales, also says principal photography will begin in April, and the actors will arrive in May.

March 5th
Best Time... has been addded to Matthew Rhys' filmography page too. While this may not be confirmed, it does concur with what I wrote on Feb 22nd below.

February 22nd
The article I linked to on the 19th, below, about the three Dylan Thomas movies, mentioned (and I've only just noticed it) that Matthew Rhys will be playing Dylan in 'Best Time'. This is the first time I've heard his name attached to this movie. He's not a huge star, but he IS Welsh, has experience of Thomas (an adaptation of Under Milk Wood) and does bear quite a resemblance to the man himself.

February 19th
The Welsh newspapers today confirm that there is indeed THREE Dylan Thomas movies in the pipeline, with 'Dylan' adding to 'Caitlin' and Keira's 'The Best Time Of Our Lives'.
'Dylan' is the one I mentioned on the 7th (see below) supposedly starring Neil 'Bob The Builder' Morrissey in a small role. This might have something to do with the fact that the actor owned the hotel in Laugharne where Dylan made merry every night (when it was a pub), and still owns other Dylan-related properties in the village. 'Dylan' will have P&P's Kelly Reilly in the role of Caitlin. I'd guess there'll be a scramble for post-production and first release when these movies are made, as only the first of similar storyline movies ever gets the press (think of the Truman Capote biopics 'Capote' and, er, the other one which came out a few months ago). It's a great pity this had to happen, and we must hope that the other two are delayed for one reason or another. Article.

February 7th
Two's rivalry, three's a crowd. This article has news about another Dylan Thomas biopic, this one starring Neil Morrissey and directed by Mike Davis (Keira's will be directed by John Maybury, and 'Caitlin' by Marc Evans). Surely not three movies ?
Thanks Caladonia

February 2nd
Lindsay Lohan has pulled out of an upcoming movie so she can concentrate on getting well again. Unfortunately for Keira fans it's a film called 'A Woman Of No Importance'. You could always pull out of one more film, Linds. Go on, you know you want to.

February 1st
British actor Kevin McKidd tells USAToday he's playing Dylan Thomas in a movie that begins shooting in March. While that date doesn't match up with Best Time.. (scheduled for April), could it be that he's been cast for Keira's film or is it the other DT movie about to start production ? Article.
Thanks Drew

January 8th
After speaking with Keira's agents today I can confirm she will NOT be attending the Golden Globe Awards. She is States-side to film some re-shoots for Pirates AWE.
I was also informed there are no projects to follow Best Time... that Keira is currently in final negotiations for.
Thanks PFD

January 6th
Cardiff's Western Mail newspaper has this article about Best Time Of Our Lives. Nothing new.

December 3rd
Today's Wales On Sunday has a long article on the two impending Dylan Thomas films, with Best Time's write-up unfortunately focussing on the 'lesbian romp' story, thanks to you-know-who. Worse news is that the wonderful Rosamund Pike has been cast as Caitlin in the OTHER Dylan movie. Arrghhh!!! Now why oh why couldn't Ros have come on board to star opposite Keira again, instead of that Lohan woman ? Still, what's done is done. Imagine how different the reaction would have been though. In the meantime, Lindsay's publicist and mother have both confirmed the rumours about her checking into Alcoholics Anonymous are true. I think she should have a couple of years off to fully recover ;-)

November 27th
Capitol Films, producers of The Best Time Of Our Lives, have put on their web site the first detailed synopsis of the movie. Read it here.

November 26th
Today's Observer newspaper has an article on the two Dylan Thomas films about to go into production, Caitlin and The Best Time Of Our Lives. It suggests Dougray Scott may be in the running for Best Time's Dylan Thomas role. Article.

November 4th
London-based Capitol Films have announced they will finance The Best Time Of Our Lives. The full announcement can be read on the Newsletter, but says in part "We have a wonderful script with two of the hottest young actresses in cinema today and I am confident that the film will be amongst the most sought after new properties at the market."
Capitol had a two-page ad in Variety this week promoting their current and upcoming projects (due to the AFM movie trade fair in LA this week). The part of the ad mentioning Best Time can be seen here, confirming both Lohan's and Maybury's attachments.
Thanks to AF for the scan

October 31st
Happy Halloween to all. Trick or treat ? Well, you decide - Variety has the confirmation today of Li-Lo's casting in Best Time. It said:
Lindsay Lohan is joining Keira Knightley in the "The Best Time of Our Lives," which John Maybury is in negotiations to direct for U.K.-based Sarah Radclyffe Prods. Lensing is skedded to begin in April. Script by Knightley's mother, playwright Sharman Macdonald... Rebekah Gilbertson, who is producing with Radclyffe, originated the project. Gilbertson is the granddaughter of Phillips and Killick. Radclyffe co-founded Working Title with Tim Bevan in 1984 but left the company after Polygram took it over. Maybury directed Knightley in Warner Independent Pictures' "The Jacket."

October 24th
L*****y L***n is worried about her British accent when she starts filming Best Time, according to The Sun. Meanwhile, the rest of those involved in the movie should be worrying about the box office. Still, at least she's going to try. That's more than can be said for Kirsten Dunst and her American-accented Marie Antoinette. Hilarious.

October 20th
The reliable Daily Mail Hollywood columnist today has this to say about the Lohan casting: "I'm told the script contains a "flavour" about how close Caitlin and Vera became, but there'll be no lesbian romp." Well that's a bit of a relief, but I'm still thinking 'Of all the actresses...'  Still, at least it means no more tabloid nonsense like this. Li-Lo's all over the papers today wearing a coat made of real fur. Silly girl. Ah well, it makes a change from her other bits of fur she keeps showing people.

October 14th
MTV is reporting that Lindsay Lohan announced on Thursday she is to star alongside Keira in The Best Time Of Our Lives.
This news has been greeted with universal condemnation by Keira's fans, and while it's more shock than anything for now, my own knee-jerk reaction is the same at the moment. Maybe it will change (if it's true) but I can't help thinking 'Of all the actresses in the world...'  In fact, of all the actresses in the world right now, if there's one who can kill the enthusiasm a fan has for a forthcoming movie by suddenly proclaiming she's attached to it, it's Miss Lindsay Lohan. And who's fault is that ?
All British-made films with US backing have a 'token American' to help it sell at the US Box Office (the only one that matters, apparently - think of all of Working Title's movies and you'll see what I mean: Renee, Julia etc.) but why Lohan ? I don't blame her for wanting to finally move away from the instantly forgettable tweenie crap she's been churning out for years, but if she wants to get her teeth into more serious, memorable movie roles, why does it have to be this one ?
Lindsay said of the role: "[Keira] is older than me, but she kind of has a mysterious relationship with my lover... And then there's somewhat of a lesbian undertone." Do you mind, Lohan ? I've just eaten. Hopefully she'll build on her recent reputation and just not turn up. Story - IMDb Message Boards: Keira - Best Time... - Take the poll

September 29th
The reliable Daily Mail showbiz reporter Baz Bamigboye states in his column today that Keira is confirmed for the role of Vera Phillips, friend of poet Dylan Thomas, in The Best Time Of Our Lives, and that filming will start in April, rather than January as originally reported. This means the first three months of 2007 are as yet unconfirmed for Keira - another movie maybe ? Or perhaps Rupert's rumoured booze cruise is about to take place! The director Mike Radford is also apparently out, replaced by John Maybury, who directed Keira in The Jacket. The screenplay is by Keira's mum Sharman Macdonald, and tells the story of the events leading up to a shooting and threatened grenade attack on the Thomas home by William Killick. More on the incident here (2/3 down the page) - Daily Mail article

May 12th
NEW MOVIE !!!
Today's Daily Mail confirms that Keira has fitted in a part in The Best Time Of Our Lives, the true story of the turbulent life of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, from a screenplay written by Mother Knightley herself, Sharman Macdonald. Filming will begin in January, and the paper reports Keira will play Dylan's wife Caitlin.Article.
More about Caitlin Thomas here and here.

March 12th

Tomorrow's Variety will have a very interesting update on Keira's next projects - including one that's new to us.

We know that Silk is definitely on and that filming has already begun in Japan and Keira's scenes will be filmed around Italy in April and May. She returns to filming on Pirates 3 in August but between May and August, the article reports, there is a potential scheduling conflict between Joe Wright's Atonement which Keira has agreed to do, and The Best Time Of Our Lives, which she is passionate about doing because the screenplay has been written by her mother Sharman Macdonald. This is the true story of the complex relationship between Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, his wife Caitlin, childhood friend Vera Phillips and her eventual husband William Killick. Keira is set to play 25-year old Vera.
Variety reports that neither Best Time or Atonement are yet greenlit, and the currently attached director of Best Time, Mike Radford, is just about to start another movie which may cause another scheduling conflict. Chances are one film will win the summer slot and Keira will return to the other project after Pirates 3 is completed.
