The Screen Actors Guild have once again ignored Keira and her projects, with no nominations for Atonement's cast, crew or the production itself. The press are concluding that this will be reflected in the Oscar nominations, but it obviously didn't for Pride & Prejudice.

More Globes reaction from the ladies...
Keira: ''I was sitting in my living room actually nursing a hangover when my agent sent a text saying congratulations.''
Saoirse: ''We're all jumping around at the moment. It's just fantastic. I'm working today, so I don't know whether I'll be able to celebrate, but we'll probably have a nice dinner when we get home from work.''

Atonement has now widened to 117 theaters in the US, hardly enough for people to see what all the Globes fuss was about. Australia is the next big market, opening there on the 26th. It's still to open in many European countries throughout January, and has recently recouped its budget of $30m.

December 13th
Keira has been nominated for her second Golden Globe Award, for her role of Cecilia Tallis in Atonement. The film has been nominated in ALL the important categories and has more nominations - seven - than any other film.

Best Supporting Actress - Saoirse Ronan
Best Director - Joe Wright
Best Screenplay - Christopher Hampton
Best Original Score - Dario Marionelli
Best Film Drama
For the full nominations in these categories, see the blog. The ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on January 13th.

Reaction:
Keira: "I'm absolutely thrilled, and it's so wonderful that the film has been nominated in so many categories. I adored making it, and am delighted for Joe, James, Saoirse and everyone involved."

James: "It is a great honour to have been nominated for a Golden Globe among such illustrious company".

Saoirse: "I loved playing Briony, so this is incredibly exciting for myself and my families - my family at home and my Atonement family. I am so happy that they were recognised for their achievements. Go Raibh Mile Maith Agaibh - that means 'thank you very much' in Irish."

The London Film Critics Awards have also announced their nominations today, with virtually the same noms as the Golden Globes:
British Actress - Keira Knightley
British Director - Joe Wright
British Actor - James Macavoy
British Supporting Actress - Saoirse Ronan
British Breakthrough - Saoirse Ronan

The US premiere of Atonement will be held at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on Thursday 6th, with arrivals from 6pm. Keira is due to be in the US all that week for promotions. If the writers' strike continues it may jeopardise any talk shows that have been planned so keep an ear to the ground for any short-notice 'replacement' promotions.

Keira's interview with Jonathan Ross can be downloaded from here (31Mb). However, we do get to see a clip from Keira's first ever TV appearance, in A Royal Celebration when she was seven.

Review site RottenTomatoes has an interview with Keira.

Despite my comments below about the Atonement clips being among YouTube's most-viewed clips of the week, YouTube have now removed many of them at the request of Universal Pictures due to copyright infringement. Joe Wright talks about Atonement in tomorrow's edition of Variety. The article in full is on the Newsletter right now. It says that the novel's author Ian McEwan "was 'very constructively involved' in reviewing drafts of the script", but also states that "a demanding post-production schedule is not expected to yield a rough cut until April." Release is set for September.

Let's hope Universal get Keira to do the publicity for Atonement if its author Ian McEwan's comments so far are anything to go by (scroll down). Or maybe he was being sarcastic.
There's been a new LiveJournal set up here for the movie.

Ooh, matron.

The North Yorkshire town of Redcar may well become part of the film set for Atonement, according to this article. I've yet to read the novel so I have no idea if the planned Dunkirk scenes involve Keira's character Cecilia. I'm sure some kind soul will enlighten me.

NEW MOVIE !!!

Keira has signed for 'Atonement', adapted from the novel by Ian McEwan. The Daily Mail's (usually reliable) showbiz columnist has this news today and says that filming will be in June/July, which will place it after Silk and before the remainder of Pirates 3. The same columnist broke the news about Silk. BAFTA-winning director of Pride & Prejudice Joe Wright will again direct Keira, who will play Cecilia, and the movie will be produced by Paul Webster of Kudos Films, who also produced P&P.
The publisher has this synopsis of Atonement: "On the hottest day of the summer of 1934, thirteen-year-old Briony Tallis sees her sister Cecilla strip off her clothes and plunge into the fountain in the garden of their country house. Watching her is Robbie Turner, her childhood friend who, like Cecilia, has recently come down from Cambridge. By the end of that day, the lives of all three will have been changed for ever. Robbie and Cecilia will have crossed a boundary they had not even imagined at its start, and will have become victims of the younger girl's imagination. Briony will have witnessed mysteries, and committed a crime for which she will spend the rest of her life trying to atone."
There are more details, including a short interview with Ian McEwan discussing the book here (beware spoilers). The Atonement page of Ian's official web site is here , and a database of reviews and critiques can be found here.
